The term "Install" can have several definitions. For example, you would install a complete new system in a new home construction or you could install an upgraded system in an existing home. You might also install new equipment into an existing system. The term "system" defines the entire package - condenser, air handler, thermostat, ductwork, and heat source etc.

The most common installation error in existing equipment upgrades is to install new equipment (condenser and air handler etc.) without upgrading the duct system to match the new equipment's stated SEER rating. Part of the equipment's calculated SEER rating is based on the system's airflow. If the system is starving for air it cannot achieve the equipment's SEER rating. The result is that your 12 SEER rated system will actually be operating at a lower SEER rating and you will not achieve the efficiency that you anticipated.

Your duct system functions as the respiratory system of your home. Dust, dirt, pollen, animal dander, bacteria and other airborne contaminants are pulled into your duct system every time the heating and cooling system runs. These contaminants build up inside the ductwork over time and can help make your duct system an ideal breeding ground for mold spores, bacteria, fungus, mildew and other microbes.

The removal of contaminants from the entire HVAC system is recognized by industry experts as the most effective way to eliminate air duct pollutants. This is referred to as the "source removal" method of duct cleaning. In addition to the obvious health benefits, duct cleaning can help you maintain a cleaner home.
